DAVE SHALAWAY

Pastor of Discipleship

Story of Salvation

Mine is a life preserved. During a very tumultuous time in my life, my spiritual journey began by being convicted by the truth of Scripture. At a crossroads in my life at age 20, I began for the first time to read the Bible, and I was confronted by the disparity between my life as it was and how the Scriptures described a believer in Christ.  Something had to change and I instinctively knew it wasn’t going to be the truth of the word of God – it had to be me. Two months later, after much more reading of the Word and a lot of soul searching, I went for a walk one Saturday night to a secluded bridge. There I surrendered my life to Jesus. Were it not for the intervention of Jesus and His grace in my life, I shudder to think what my life may look like today. I’ve been committed to be a student of the Word and to grow in the grace it takes to be a disciple of Jesus ever since.

Life & Family

This year Carol and have been married for over 30 years and we have loved the path God has set us on as a family. She has been a nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital for all our years together, and I have been ministering in various settings over that time. My three sons are Quin, Ethan, and Elijah, blondest to reddest. We now have the privilege of living in the home in which I grew up, located in the sprawling hamlet of Niantic. We love pets, love playing games and having any kind of fun, especially all forms of golf - including disc golf and one I invented which we play on the course on our property – Croquet Golf. Who will come and play?

Prayer for Hope Community Church

My prayer is that this community of believers would come to love being invigorated by worshiping together, learning together, and fellowshipping together. That we would then go and be spent in living for Jesus throughout the week, only to return to be replenished again, and again...
all the while inviting others to join us on the journey.

Role at Hope Community Church

As the apostle Paul said, I wish to “present everyone mature in Christ.” As part of Hope’s Leadership team, we proclaim Jesus for the purpose of causing growth in each individual part, as well as the body of Christ as a whole.  My heart is to create an environment in which people can thrive in their relationships with Jesus. My goal is to learn the needs of the church, and to provide any tool or resource that will help cultivate fruit in the life of each person. It is also to fan the flames of the gifts the Holy Spirit has deposited into this body for ministering to each other and the world.  (Colossians 1:28; Ephesians 4:16; 2 Timothy 1:6)
